About John Regan soccer training

It is my goal to provide comprehensive soccer education to aspiring soccer athletes, coaches, and parents.

I aim for each player to become technically proficient with a soccer ball, maximize their speed of play, instill the confidence to be creative on the field, and motivate them to reach their full potential.  I believe the repetition of good practice habits is the formula for success and pride myself in teaching all players, regardless of initial ability, the details of the beautiful game.

My Background

I have 25+ years coaching experience at the youth, high school, collegiate, and professional levels. I have had the privilege of working with hundreds of youth players who continued to compete at the collegiate and professional ranks and thousands more who simply enjoyed their youth soccer experience.  Every training session will have an emphasis on technical soccer development and soccer intelligence.

I played at Georgia Southern University where I started all four years in the midfield.  I earned conference player of the year and All-South honors as a senior.  I remained as an assistant coach while a graduate student.  I was inducted into the Georgia Southern Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001.  I continued playing semi-pro and professional soccer for six years and retired from the A-League Atlanta Ruckus (Currently Silverbacks) in 1998.

My goal has always been to instill a passion for the sport and maintain the utmost professionalism while teaching the future leaders of tomorrow.

While playing, I trained several different teams and managed camps. I was fortunate to coach many nationally ranked youth teams while at United Quest Soccer club (currently North Atlanta Soccer Association) where I served as trainer, coach, and technical director for 12 years.  I was fortunate enough to coach several state championship teams and compete in most major tournaments in the country.

I received the NSCAA Advanced national diploma and USSF B license, but learned much more as a coach while facing world powerhouse youth teams in elite competition.  I coached against professional clubs Tauiuchi from Bolivia, Everton from England, C.F. Monterrey, UNAM Pumas, and Tigres from Mexico, River Plate from Argentina, and several elite clubs in the country.

I take pride in the extensive real-world experience I have received over the past 20+ years of coaching.

I moved to Virginia in 2008 with my wife Mary and three children Madeline, Max, and Michael.  I currently serve as director of coaching for Old Dominion Football Club (North) and manage my business full-time.  I offer a complete soccer education, and use specialized training methods to teach the ingredients of the game.

I do not put my name on the application and hire other coaches to do the work.  I will be directly responsible for each practice session, clinic, class, or camp.

I specialize in private, group, goalkeeping and team training.  I offer winter skills clinics focused on futsal and close control.  During the summer and some school holidays I manage various ball mastery and goal scoring camps. Players willing to concentrate, give effort, and show a positive attitude towards others will truly benefit from the training.  As part of the complete soccer education, I enjoy helping coaches understand the game better, so they can encourage good soccer habits with their teams.  I welcome coaches to attend sessions.  I also believe parents play an integral part in the development process, so feel free to take notes and learn what your child can do at home to reach their full potential as a soccer player.
